Happy 60th Birthday Lyle - Oct 14, 1947

If Lyle were still with us, he would be celebrating his 60th birthday on Sunday, Oct. 14. He always loved a party so this would have been a big one even though he probably wouldn't have wanted anyone to know he was turning 60. Lyle had kind of a hard time with those new decade birthdays. I can remember his fortieth birthday. He had warned me against any "over the hill" party or black balloons. I decided to make it a cheerful birthday. I went to U.S. Novelty and selected a bouquet of 40 of the most cheerfully colored balloons you have ever seen. Some how I managed to get all of them into my car and up to the Church Office building. Getting them out of the van was just as difficult as getting them in had been. I hadn't anticipated those awful revolving doors into the building. I am sure that it must have been fun to watch me try to get through those doors with 40 balloons in tow. Lyle wasn't in his office when I got there so I released all 40 balloons to float around his office, left a love note and returned home. Oh was he upset when he got home, especially when he saw the "Happy 40th Birthday" banner on the front of the house. He was not amused. I hope his sense of humor has improved as I am sending this out for all to see. I think he would be okay with it. I hope that he also knows just how much we all love and miss him (especially me). Please send your favorite story of Lyle. I would love to read them all. Margaret
